Mary and I were the only girls in the Blue Knights Stage Band as seniors.  From day 1 in summer band, as sophmores, we were best friends.  We even nicknamed each other.  Mary was "Flip" and I was "Flop"  It started as a joke, but continued until graduation.  I had lost contact with her, until I read of her death.  I was blessed to have her as a friend and confidant.  Our greatest moment was when we played in the Brownwood Stage Band Contest, winning  the #1 rating in the state.  Stan Kenton presented it to Mr. Pearson.  Needless to say, we were so proud of our group.

Mary and I were both "Air Force Brats" from Randolph Field who chose to continue at Mac, rather than go be "Big Fish In a Small Pond" at Randolph High School- the first-ever on-base Air Force High School.  The main feature of Mary was her HAPPINESS- Always shining, and positive !!! Mary and I both played trombone at Mac, and while she had a "dingy" personality, the Truth is that she was always doing "stand up comedy"- (playing a "ditzy blonde" even though she had beautiful auburb hair). We sat next to each other in band- with Bobby Lambert on the other side, it was like being surrounded by Jonathon Winters, and Mary Tyler Moore !!! Possessed of a strange beauty, I don't recall her ever dating or having crushes(?). She was an excellent trombonist- good enough to be in The Blue Knights stage band. And a good student- in spite of her "persona" Mary was SMART. Her death stunned me- it had been preceded by Kristin Johson's another magical young woman from Randolph Field. Kristen & Mary's passings shook me- made me doubt, for a moment, the "Magick" of Life......

I miss You, Mary- YOU Were (and do doubt Stil Are): A KICK !!!
